An agreement that will strengthen the links between education and training to employment, workforce capability, and economic opportunities across Te Tai Tokerau Northland, was signed today (Tuesday 1 September) between NorthTec and Northland NZ representatives.

NorthTec – Tai Tokerau Wānanga nurse educator Dr Pipi Barton (Waikato) has been presented with Te Akenehi Hei Memorial Award for Māori Nursing Excellence and Service, the premier award for Māori nursing in Aotearoa New Zealand.

A new work augmented learning pathway will enable Northlanders to study towards a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy while continuing to work in paid or volunteer roles.

NorthTec welcomes the news from the minister on the decision of NorthTec’s future. NorthTec look forward to being able to continue the delivery tertiary education in Northland.

With Matariki ready to rise and grace our morning skies, the Kahikatea Mental Health and Wellbeing team at NorthTec has created a hauora initiative to help uplift and support the wellbeing of ākonga and kaiako alike.

The annual Northland heat of the Certified Builders Apprentice Challenge went off without a hitch this weekend. Held at NorthTec’s Dyer Street campus in Whangārei, the challenge is a regional competition for Construction Apprentices from across Te Tai Tokerau.

The 2024 Food and Beverages Trade Academy Students at NorthTec have survived their first service in the Apprentice Restaurant at NorthTec’s Raumanga Campus. The set service lunch took place on Monday the 8th of April and saw the full class putting their new skills to the test.

Martin Tomas spent his 20s training and then working as a graphic designer, attached to a desk and a laptop or computer for the vast majority of his working days. That is until he threw it all in to become a fencer.

Almost one hundred secondary school students from across Tai Tokerau have signed on to NorthTec’s Trades Academy programme this year, getting a head start on their career goals while gaining industry skills and credits toward NCEA and University Entrance.

NorthTec’s hospitality team joined forces with the Northland Regional Council (NRC) to, once again, bring wild food treats to the Northland Field Days which took place between the 29th of February to the 2nd of March last week.
