Understanding Qualifications

NorthTec’s qualifications are designed to suit students with varying levels of previous education and experience.

Each programme has entry criteria which must be met before you can enrol. The criteria may be prior achievement of certain academic qualifications or, for mature students, they can relate to previous work, skills and experience.

  • Adult Community Education: Level 1
  • Certificate: Level 2–5
  • Diploma: Level 5–7
  • Degree: Level 7
  • Graduate Diploma: Level 7
  • Masters: Level 9

Generic entry requirements

An entry requirement for all programmes is that each student can reasonably expect to achieve the standards required for successful completion of the programme or course.

Level 1

All applicants must:

  • be at least 16 years old at the time the programme commences
  • be able to understand, follow, and respond to instructions given in English
  • be physically able to complete the programme specific outcomes

Level 2

All applicants must:

  • be at least 16 years old at the time the programme commences
  • be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level
  • be physically able to complete the programme specific outcomes

Level 3

All applicants must:

  • be at least 16 years old at the time the programme commences
  • be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level
  • be physically able to complete the programme specific outcomes

For a small number of programmes a police check or declaration about criminal convictions may be required. Students will be notified if this is required for the programme they are applying for.

Applicants for whom English is not a first language, must have an IELTS score of 5 with no band score lower than 5 or an accepted international equivalence.

Level 4

All applicants must:

  • be at least 16 years old at the time the programme commences
  • be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level
  • be physically able to complete the programme specific outcomes
