Fees Free

Students can benefit from the government’s final-year Fees Free tertiary study scheme and NorthTec’s own commitment to providing some programmes with zero fees.

NorthTec’s fees are subsidised by the government to make it easier for New Zealanders to gain tertiary-level skills.

  • If you are a first-time tertiary learner, you may be able to get up to $12,000 of your fees covered for one year’s study or two years’ training. Find out whether you are eligible for Fees Free study at ird.govt.nz/fees-free.
  • All level 1 and 2 programmes have zero tuition fees.
  • 16-24 years old? Study for free with Youth Guarantee on selected level 3 certificate programmes.

Please note that some programmes with zero fees may have additional costs for materials or a compulsory student services fee (CSSF).

Fees Free

Starting tertiary study or work-based learning for the first-time? You may be able to get Fees Free after you complete your first eligible qualification or programme.

Fees Free covers the cost of your fees for the final year of study or final two years of work-based learning, up to $12,000.

When you enrol, you will need to pay your fees. To help you cover this cost, you may wish to apply for a student loan. Find out more at Student Loan – StudyLink.
