NorthTec has received an allocation of Government funding for the Hardship Fund for Learners (HAFL), and students can now make applications for assistance under this scheme. This funding is only available to full-time enrolled students and does not apply to students enrolled in ACE courses.
Applications can also be made via NorthTec to the Government’s Technology Access Fund for Learners (TAFL) and the NorthTec student hardship fund.
Please note that the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) has advised that the Hardship Fund for Learners (HAFL) will end on 30 June 2022. This means that:
Under this fund, you can apply for temporary financial assistance to help cover costs for food; housing; utilities; clothing; medical; transport; Wi-fi/data. To be eligible, your application must be supported by your tutor or other NorthTec staff member. You will need to provide a digital copy of: your bank account details for payment, the bill you are seeking help to pay, and last two weeks’ bank transactions to date. Please note that priority will be given to students who are in most need of financial assistance.
Under this fund, NorthTec is able to supply loan digital devices to students who do not have a suitable device enabling you to study from home. You must have the support of your tutor, who can confirm that this is an essential need for you. It’s available to full-time enrolled students and is prioritised to those with no digital device and most in need of devices for their studies. As the Chromebooks are a loan, they must be returned to NorthTec before the end of the year or end of your studies (whichever comes first). If you require a digital device, please contact your tutor directly and your request will be managed by your programme area.
NorthTec hardship grants are available as payments for unexpected financial hardship which may arise. To be eligible, you must have accessed all other external supports, and your application must be supported by your tutor or other NorthTec staff member. You will need to provide a digital copy of your bank account details for payment, a digital copy of the bill you are seeking help to pay, and evidence of two weeks’ bank transactions.
