This exciting programme connects you with the tourism and travel industries, and provides you with the skills and knowledge to work at a senior level in a tourism and travel related business.

What you will learn

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

  • analyse and evaluate local, national and international tourism operating environments in order to effectively develop and guide strategic business direction in the tourism industry

  • identify and analyse strategic leadership roles and styles, and the potential impact on change management for a tourism enterprise

  • develop, analyse and critique tourism business strategic systems and processes that enable the commercial development of a quality visitor experience and contribute to overall sustainable business effectiveness

  • prepare effective public relations campaigns including multi-media communications for a tourism business development

  • analyse and propose strategic business models to improve environmental sustainability for a tourism business or tourism business development

  • develop strategic investment plans for a tourism enterprise.

Career pathways

Holders of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to work at a senior level in a tourism and travel related business. Roles may include future business owners, tourism operations managers, business development managers and general managers, trade development managers.

Entry requirements

Applicants under 20 years
Applicants should be a minimum of 18 years of age and have completed the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 5) or equivalent.

Applicants over 20 years
Applicants will be considered where they can demonstrate the ability to succeed in the programme. Examples of demonstration of ability to succeed are the provision of evidence of successful completion of the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 5) or equivalent and/or employment in the tourism or related sector at an entry-level management position or higher for 2 or more years.

Applicants for whom English is not a first language
Applicants must have an IELTS Academic score of 6, with no band score lower than 5.5; or an accepted international equivalence.
