Develop a basic understanding of tikanga
Founded on a Māori world view, you will gain introductory knowledge and skills to support and participate in tikanga practices.
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

describe the fundamental application of cultural concepts where tikanga are applied and practiced as an expression of mana ao tūroa;

apply basic reo structures and tikanga practices as an expression of mana reo;

apply basic factual knowledge to describe tikanga as they apply to kaitiakitanga in the expression of mana whenua;
-
engage and interact with others to carry out basic aspects of ngā tikanga as an expression of mana tangata.
Entry Requirements
To gain admission to the Te Pōkaitahi Tikanga (Mātauranga Māori) (Kaupae 2) all applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level.
Those students, whose first language is not English, are required to demonstrate an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall academic score of at least 5.0 issued within the last two years (or equivalent).

From 1 January 2023, all NorthTec learners will be part of Te Pūkenga. Please note that these programmes of study are currently under review as part of the reform of vocational education training and may be subject to change.
