How to book

  1. Download the SafeTrades Course Calendar to view the available dates

  2. Complete the SafeTrades Booking Form for the training required. The form has fields enabling you to book up to five people. If you want to book for more than five people, please enter the additional details in the Comments field.

  3. Those individuals who have not previously enrolled on a SafeTrades Short Course during the last year are also required to complete the NorthTec Online Enrolment Form. Each student only needs to do this ONCE per year.

This course is essential for any person who issues or receives safe work permits in the workplace, and for those intending to set up a permit system.

Learning outcomes

Trainees who complete this course will have knowledge and practical skills to:

  • Explain work permit procedures and requirements

  • Ensure the need for a work permit is properly identified and the worksite is prepared accordingly

  • Issue a work permit for a range of different types of work requiring permitting

  • Accept a work permit and undertake work under the permit

  • Monitor and close the work permit

  • Audit work permits

  • Describe and carry out the controls and actions to be taken at the end of a work period or upon the completion of work

  • Complete a practical activity around permit issuing and receiving.

17588: People credited with this unit standard are able to: explain the types of work permits, the roles of those involved in the work permit system, and the requirements for receiving a work permit; explain the preparatory requirements when applying for a
work permit; accept a work permit and undertake work under the permit; and describe and carry out the controls and actions
to be taken at the end of a work period or upon the completion of work.
