How to book

  1. Download the SafeTrades Course Calendar to view the available dates

  2. Complete the SafeTrades Booking Form for the training required. The form has fields enabling you to book up to five people. If you want to book for more than five people, please enter the additional details in the Comments field.

  3. Those individuals who have not previously enrolled on a SafeTrades Short Course during the last year are also required to complete the NorthTec Online Enrolment Form. Each student only needs to do this ONCE per year.

Learning outcomes

Trainees who complete this course will have knowledge and practical skills to:

  • Explain the legislative requirements associated with fall arrest and working at heights

  • Explain the requirements of standards and codes of practice relating to fall arrest and working at heights

  • Identify a wide range of hazards relevant to working at heights

  • Identify the advantages and disadvantages of different types of access systems, including permanent fixed access and platforms, scaffolding, and mechanical plant

  • Explain the application of safety nets

  • Identify a range of secondary protection for personnel, including suitability for use, and protection of other personnel and public

  • Explain the application of different types of safety belts and harnesses in different situations.

  • Explain the legislative requirements associated with working at heights

  • Explain the systems suitable for working at heights

  • Identify the different types of height safety equipment employed when carrying out height work in the workplace

  • Identify the characteristics and limitations of a variety of height safety equipment

  • Explain when different types of anchors and fall arrest systems would be used during work height and why

  • Describe the compliance requirements for inspection of height safety equipment

  • Plan rescue techniques and emergency procedures for working at height in the workplace.
