This course is intended to provide participants with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to conduct a competency assessment for professional practice.

On successful completion of this micro-credential graduates will be able to:

  • plan and prepare for competency assessment, make competency decisions against specified criteria,

  • complete required administration and review the competency assessment process

How you will learn

This course will be taught using a blended delivery mode. Participants will learn online using the NorthNet Moodle platform. The online learning will require participants to complete tutor directed activities such as reading information online, watching videos, completing online quizzes, posting on discussion forums, completing worksheets etc. Participants will also be involved in carrying out competency assessments and reflecting on the assessment process.

Participants will also carry out some learning in the workplace by completing two competency assessments.

Entry and Selection Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • a current professional development and recognition portfolio (PDRP) and be either an Enrolled Nurse or Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner; or

  • a current quality leadership programme portfolio (QLP) and be a Registered Midwife.

In addition, the applicant must hold a current annual practising certificate with the appropriate registration authority in New Zealand.

International applicants, for whom English is not their first language, must have an IELTS score of 6.5 in one test; or hold an accepted international equivalence.

Where applicants exceed available places, applicants will be selected by order of complete applications received.
