Who will benefit?

This course is ideal for employees who are involved in planning and or undertaking manual handling tasks including staff from the shop floor to supervisors and managers.

Learning outcomes

Trainees who complete this course will have knowledge and practical skills in the following areas:

  • How the spine works

  • The risk factors for injuring your back

  • Techniques for preventing back injury

  • Workplace control measures to reduce the risk of back injury.

People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe the structure and function of the spine; identify the risk factors
for occupational back injury; identify back care techniques; and identify work place control measures to reduce the risk of
back injury.
