About this programme

This programme is ideal if you have entry-level knowledge of a forestry operation. It will teach you the skills needed to carry out day-to-day operational functions within a forest, and to gain employment in a production role in a commercial forest harvesting or log scaling operation. A range of specialist strands are available to choose from.

What you will learn

You will undertake a range of courses, which may include:

  • Health and Safety for Forest Harvesting

  • Personal and Environmental Factors in Forest Harvesting

  • Manual Processing

  • Quality Control for Landing Operations

  • Breaking Out and Lineshifts

  • Poleman on a Cable Harvesting Landing

  • Basic Machine Operation

  • Tree Felling

  • Breaking Out - Ground Based 

  • Production Thinning

Admission Information

All applicants must:

  • be at least 16 years old at the time the programme commences

  • be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level

  • be physically able to complete the programme-specific outcomes.

Students will be expected to participate in drugs testing, as this is a requirement by the forestry industry.
