Are you aged 16-19? The Youth Guarantee Scheme provides the chance to study for free for up to two years, and can support you with transport and pastoral care.

About this programme

This programme covers general construction and maintenance knowledge. It provides training across a wide range of construction and maintenance areas by giving you practical experience on small building projects. It will enable you to undertake construction jobs within your local community and can help you fi nd work in the industry or carry out commercial/house maintenance work.

This programme is also an ideal starting point for further study in the construction and painting sector.

What you will learn

You will learn to:

  • Read plans

  • Draw detailed project sketches

  • Construct garden furniture or small sheds

  • Be able to safely use hand tools, power tools and machinery

  • Have knowledge of current building practices

  • Be able to discuss the use of selected building materials

  • Have knowledge of building calculation.

Admission information

All applicants must:

  • be at least 16 years old at the time the programme commences

  • be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level

  • be physically able to complete the programme specific outcomes
