Tia Lord- Sport and Recreation

Tia Lord has recently undertaken the NZ Certificate in Exercise Level 4 and her journey has been full of great experiences.

“Being a Mum of two, I wasn't looking to lock into any long-term study.” Tia confesses.  “I was a bit unsure about what I wanted to study. I liked sport and exercise, but I wasn’t sure how to make a career out of it. I noticed the course was only six months, and I thought that was something I could work with.”

“At the end of the course you get a qualification and that something tangible and I’ll be able to be a personal trainer, which is something to fall back on. I like coaching, I like being around people and helping them achieve goals so I thought it would work for me.”

“I am the oldest person in the class, and at first I was a bit self-conscious of being a mature student. But everyone is very welcoming and after the first five minutes you don’t even notice anymore.”

“I’ve learnt so much. I love knowing how the body works and all the intricate systems that are involved. I now have so many skills that I can apply to my health and life. I can also help out my whanau and they are more likely to listen because I have that knowledge.”

“I also found out I was really strong, like I could have been a powerlifter. I may have missed my calling. But the course has really helped me gain a lot of confidence in my self and my body. It’s been great.”

“I’m not sure what I want to do next. At the start of the course, I would have said I didn’t want to be a Personal Trainer, now I am seriously considering it. I have so many options now.”

“If you’re on the fence about studying then get off the fence and go for it!”
