“I wanted to learn the restaurant side of hospitality as well as the kitchen side, and the tutors here have years of experience in both sectors. They have worked internationally and nationally so they’re inspiring to learn from. We cover everything from presentation, to health and safety, to front of house, policies and procedures and silver service.”

“I’ve gained so much more confidence in myself now. When I started I was really intimidated meeting people and taking their orders, but I’m now comfortable at functions because I know my duties and what’s expected of me. I enjoy catering to people’s dietary requirements and can make suggestions to help them with options.”

“The next stage for me is to study the business side of running a restaurant including building code requirements, staff training and rosters, keeping health and safety diaries and council requirements. I’m a mum with six kids and several grand-children and I’m keen to keep learning and create a career.”

“I also want to inspire other mums to step out and up. The steps and support are here to get on a study pathway. At NorthTec, things like car-pooling and catching up with level 2 and 3 basics help remove those barriers that we put in our own way. We can do this.”
