Creative Northland signing to boost the arts

Increasing employment opportunities for graduates in the creative industries is one of the aims of a Statement of Shared Objectives (SoSo) signed between NorthTec and Creative Northland.

Scholarship, internships and promotion of creative career paths to high school students are also on the list of objectives hoped to be achieved by the two organisations working together.

The document was signed at NorthTec’s Geoff Wilson Gallery by Creative Northland Board member Sharon Morgan (in the absence of Chair, Dr Benjamin Pitman), Creative Northland General Manager Hinurewa te Hau and NorthTec Council Deputy Chair, Jane Hindle, and Chief Executive Mark Ewen.

The agreement centres on opportunities for NorthTec and Creative Northland to work together to improve educational pathways for youth into the creative sector, increase relevant work placements, and strengthen relationship with the creative industry.

It also commits both parties to contributing to the sustainability and growth of the Geoff Wilson Gallery.

Mark Ewen said the signing was an excellent opportunity for both organisations to work together to a set of agreed objectives which would benefit students, graduates and those already working in Tai Tokerau’s flourishing arts and creative industry sector.

Hinurewa ta Hau said: “Like Northland Inc and Northland Chamber of Commerce, who have also signed ‘SoSo’ agreements, we want to see Tai Tokerau grow. We want to not only retain the best creative talent but extend into nurturing better creators, makers and thinkers to give our communities a competitive edge. We are delighted to be part of the NorthTec whānau.”
