NorthTec supports young Northlanders

NorthTec is continuing its sponsorship of the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) Northland Regional Awards 2021.

The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme Regional Awards evening brings together the top YES companies from across Te Tai Tokerau, and both showcases and celebrates the entrepreneurial talents and success of the students.

“NorthTec is proud to continue to sponsor the YES programme,” says Graeme Ramsey, NorthTec tutor for Business and a judge on the regional awards panel. “Northland has a strong future given the talent that is evident in these people and the way that teachers, parents, and this programme works to foster our next business leaders.”

NorthTec sponsors the Northland awards ceremony each year through the NorthTec Award for Excellence in Business Management.

The awards took place on 5 November this year. The winner of the Northland Regional Finals 2021, Sky’s Surf School from Kerikeri High School, was a standout amongst the high-quality businesses presented on the night.

The business, run by Sky Grundy, has had a lot of success over the past year and Sky was interviewed by John Campbell on TV 1 Breakfast Show in early July this year. Sky’s Surf School received multiple awards on the night, and Sky herself received the BDO Northland Award for YES Young Managing Director 2021.

The winner of the NorthTec award for Excellence in Business Management was another Kerikeri High School business, SR Games, whose product is a tumbling trivia game where each block contains questions about New Zealand culture, history, and current events.

“Once again the programme delivered a group of finalists that were of the highest quality,” said Graeme Ramsey. “Selecting one as the winner was very difficult given the business ideas that our young entrepreneurs had, the work that had been put into developing these, and the presentations that were made.”

NorthTec congratulates all participants for the effort they have put in over the last year and looks forward to continuing their sponsorship for 2022.
