NorthTec graduation ceremony: 1 September 2021

Around 200 former students will graduate formally on Wednesday, 1 September at the annual NorthTec ceremony held at Forum North in Whangārei, after it was postponed from March due to Covid-19 restrictions.

There will be two ceremonies, at 10am and 2pm, with the traditional march through the CBD getting under way at 1pm.

The march will leave the Rose Gardens in Water Street and follow its usual route along Vine Street, Quality Street, Cameron Street and Rust Avenue, finishing back at Forum North.

The graduating class of 2020 have all successfully completed diplomas, degrees or graduate diplomas. They will receive their formal awards in front of whānau, friends, NorthTec staff and invited guests.

The first ceremony will be for graduands of applied arts; nursing; applied writing and creative writing; Te Reo me Ngā Tikanga; Māori arts; agribusiness; cookery; tourism and travel.

In the afternoon, graduands of the following will receive their awards: applied management; social work; accounting; information systems; project management; architectural technology; business; construction; civil engineering; sport and recreation; environmental management; software development; web development and design.

The student valedictorian is Lynlee Bird, a Bachelor of Applied Social Work. Speeches will be given by Ripeka Evans, Chair of the NorthTec Board, and the valedictorian.
