New initiative taking business diploma to Far North

A new initiative, offering papers from the New Zealand Diploma in Business to students living outside of Whangārei will be piloted from July at NorthTec Kaitaia.

Business Tutor, Catherine Murupaenga-Ikenn said: "Our aspiration is to make diploma and degree business education accessible right across Te Tai Tokerau. To achieve this successfully, we’re eager to co-design an innovative learning environment tailored and responsive to our students’ diverse learning needs.

"We picture this involving a mix of online and face-to-face learning, including NorthTec-supported transport to Whangārei for a whakatau in week one to meet with the Raumanga cohort.

"We are also excited in week two to host an event at Raumanga featuring a strong line-up of speakers (including Auckland University’s Niki Harre) on the climate emergency and change. Students will have the choice of participating in person, or via live stream. "

Semester two starts with launching our Understanding Change paper, led by Catherine Murupaenga-Ikenn. In addition to exploring the fundamental significance of change dynamics, the course will provoke us to critically consider the profound implications of climate crisis for our workplaces and communities, and how organisations and individuals might meaningfully respond. Ongoing support for a study group will be provided at the Kaitaia campus and all course resources will be available on NorthNet, our online learning platform. Catherine will travel to Kaitaia at least once during the eight-week teaching block.

Understanding Change is one of the eight papers of the New Zealand Diploma in Business. Our papers now run over eight teaching-weeks. To be a full time student and receive a student allowance, you would need to take two papers each term.

If you know someone who may be interested in this pilot, please pass this information on, or contact Catherine on (09)4703600/ or Helen on 09 4704151 or
