Kerikeri Campus is relaunched

NorthTec is pleased to announce the relaunch of its Kerikeri Campus, after the site was temporarily rested in 2018.

The relaunch is the result of a partnership that has been developed between NorthTec Tai Tokerau Wananga, and local hapū, Ngāti Rēhia. This relationship was formalised by the signing of an agreement between the parties at an event on site, on Wednesday, 26 September.

The relationship between Ngāti Rēhia and NorthTec began around 30 years ago, when Ngāti Rēhia identified the site in Hone Heke Road, Kerikeri as an important location for education. The current partnership allows for Ngāti Rēhia to be co-located at the campus and for both parties to work together to deliver better lives for Te Tai Tokerau through education.

A lease has also been agreed with Heritage New Zealand. This arrangement will support the ongoing financial viability of the campus by helping to underwrite some of the costs of maintaining the site.

Phil Alexander-Crawford, NorthTec’s Director Development, said: “We look forward to working in partnership with Ngāti Rēhia to continue delivering tertiary education to the Kerikeri community. We also welcome Heritage NZ onto the site.”

NorthTec’s focus for the campus for 2019 is on health and wellbeing, with foundation programmes being offered in both the nursing and social work pathways. The programmes planned for delivery are:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community Services) (Level 4) – Semester 1

  • New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3) (Focus on Health) – Semester 1

  • New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) (Focus on Nursing and Health) – Semester 2

These are designed to prepare students for the Bachelor of Applied Social Work and the Bachelor of Nursing. All programmes across the organisation are offered subject to achieving sufficient numbers to make delivery financially viable.
