Counter Space set for launch

The primary entrance space of the Geoff Wilson Gallery, on NorthTec’s Raumanga campus, has been repurposed as a retail display area.

It is now a vibrant and inviting space to showcase artworks created by Northland’s arts and crafts people.

Counter Space, as it is now known, is available to all artists, whether established or emergent. Works for sale will be rotated every three months, and new artists are invited to approach the gallery if they are interested in displaying their creations.

The gallery is staffed by experienced arts personnel, who look forward to building this venture into a popular venue for artists and customers alike.

The Counter Space will be launched with an opening celebration on Wednesday, 21 June, from 4.30 to 6.30pm. The inaugural exhibition will be a collection of mixed media works by several local artists.

These include contemporary flax worker, Wendy Naepflin; upcycled notebook maker, Maureen Baker; mosaic and ceramic artist, Pat George; painter, Thomas Lauterbach; and mixed media artist, Chris den Hartogh. The artists will be available to discuss their work at the opening ceremony.

The Geoff Wilson Gallery is open on Wednesdays from 10am to 6pm, and Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 4pm. For more information call 09-470 3805 or email gallery@northtec.ac.nz.
