Gearing up for NorthTec Community Day

NorthTec is preparing for its third annual Community Day on Sunday, 6 November, and is inviting the public to come and join the fun once again.

Running from 10am to 1pm at the main campus in Raumanga Valley Road, NorthTec Community Day is an opportunity for families to find out more about tertiary study options and enjoy a day out with free food and entertainment.

The two previous events have attracted more than 2000 people each time. This year’s main attraction is a giant water slide, so children should bring their togs and be prepared to get wet!

Staff from NorthTec programme areas will be available to chat and hand out information, and there will be interactive stalls ranging from blood pressure testing by the nursing department to professional nail painting by the team from beauty therapy.

Keen gardeners will again be able to pick up free seedlings to take home and plant, courtesy of the horticulture department, and a range of local community groups will also have stalls.

NorthTec hospitality students will provide some tasty snacks, and there will be a free sausage sizzle.

Children will enjoy the bouncy castle, and will also be kept entertained by free Zorbing and Segway rides, and musical performances by local artists.

Ellie Ball, NorthTec Events and Promotions Coordinator, said: “We’re really happy to be presenting our Community Day for the third year running after the success of previous years. It’s a great way to get involved with our local community and help them find out about study options for next year.”
