All Aboard the Careers Coach!

High school students and school leavers will have some help making plans for their future when a custom-made “careers coach” comes to Northland.

The Careers Coach is a mobile unit which uses computer-based technology to assist young people in making choices. It is coming to Northland at the invitation of a group of education and training providers, government agencies and community organisations.

These include NorthTec, People Potential, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, Ngati Hine Health Trust, Kaikohe Social Sector Trials, Northpine, Regent Training Centre, Te Matarau Education Trust, Ministry of Social Development, Northland Chamber of Commerce, Te Puni Kokiri and the Whangarei and Far North district councils.

The coach can host up to 26 visitors on board at any point, using touchscreen computers to find out about pathways to different careers and industries. It will contain information on all the training programmes available in Northland through the various education providers, and can send texts to users giving follow-up links to the careers they are interested in.

The striking, bright red coach will be in the region from 30 January to 27 February, and will kick off its tour with a visit to the Ngāpuhi Festival at Kaikohe on 30 and 31 January.

It will visit high schools in the mid and Far North, attend Waitangi on 6 February and then head for the Whangarei area ending the tour at the Pacifica Festival in Whangarei on the 27 February 2016.

The coach will be hosted by NorthTec on 17 and 28 February, spending a day each at the Raumanga and Dyer Street campuses.

Detailed information on the tour will be uploaded to Facebook. If businesses or training providers are interested in being involved in hosting the coach, please contact Jodi Hayward on 029-200-8725 or
