Collaboration Opens Up Agribusiness Training to More Northlanders

Management capability is a key factor in the success of agribusinesses, and decision makers now have greater access to training through a new partnership between Primary ITO and NorthTec.

The two organisations are working together to deliver the New Zealand Diploma in Agribusiness Management; a qualification backed by industry, including DairyNZ, Beef + Lamb New Zealand and Horticulture New Zealand.

The collaboration brings together facilities and resources that will create more opportunities for farmers and horticulturalists to upskill in areas such as strategic planning, financial management, human resources and sustainability.

Vicktoria Blake, NorthTec Programme Coordinator, said: “This partnership is great news for Northland’s primary industries as we are able to offer the Diploma in Agribusiness Management for the first time. It will take agricultural training to a new level by providing tutoring in planning and management within the industry, and contribute to a sustainable future for the region’s economy.”

One of the major benefits of the programme is the high level of pastoral care and learning support offered by Primary ITO training advisers and support staff. As well as one-to-one guidance from their Primary ITO training adviser, students will be able to sit down with a mentor from their local community.

Fred Hardy, Research, Development and Liaison Manager, says: “Primary ITO’s partnership with NorthTec means that more people working in agribusiness and horticulture can improve their practices and planning – leading not only to better business outcomes for themselves, but an improved result for the industry as a whole.”

Students learn through a blend of face-to-face and online learning and classes are facilitated by experienced agribusiness practitioners. Classes are interactive and discussion-based, providing an opportunity to learn from peers and regular guest speakers.

To find out more about the Diploma in Agribusiness Management, contact your local Primary ITO adviser on 0800 20 80 20 to discuss how to improve your agribusiness skills and get the tools you need to meet your goals.
