NorthTec’s popular programmes prepare you for a rewarding career which can take you anywhere in the world. Combining theory and clinical experience/fieldwork, it challenges you to go beyond traditional health care. Our nursing, social work and sport and recreation programmes are aimed at preparing you for the workplace, learning how to practice in a manner that is culturally safe.
NorthTec’s Bachelor of Nursing is a 3-year programme that combines theory and clinical experience to prepare you for a career in nursing. Our blend of online learning and classroom teaching, makes the programme accessible for those outside of Whangārei. At NorthTec, you’ll find a whānau-like environment where individuals are supported and encouraged to fulfil their potential. NorthTec has a great reputation for nursing, and we recently came out top in a national study for our Māori nursing achievements.
NorthTec's Bachelor of Applied Social Work is a 4-year programme, based in Whangārei, which responds to the specific and current demands of social services within Te Tai Tokerau as well as meeting national requirements. It will produce practitioners able to respond to constant change. A commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and a global focus ensures our graduates are skilled and knowledgeable about a range of global issues which impact on Aotearoa New Zealand. Students will become equipped to effectively communicate and work within cross cultural and intercultural situations.
NorthTec offers qualifications up to degree level in Sport, Recreation and Exercise in Whangārei. More than 1700 Northlanders are employed in the sport and recreation sector, making it Northland’s 7th biggest industry by employment. NorthTec students learn about both the theory and practical aspects of coaching, discover how to prescribe and deliver exercise programmes and gain outdoor recreation and leadership skills.
