Te Pūkenga

Nau mai haere mai ki Te Pūkenga
Welcome to Te Pūkenga

From 1 January 2023, all NorthTec learners will be part of Te Pūkenga.

Te Pūkenga is building a national network of integrated learning in Aotearoa New Zealand that better meets the needs of learners, their whānau, employers and the community.

By bringing together on-the-job, on campus and online learning, Te Pūkenga is creating a network that gives learners more choices and flexibility in what, where and how they learn.

About Te Pūkenga

Te Pūkenga was established to better meet the needs of learners and employers by bringing together on-job, on-campus and online learning across Aotearoa New Zealand.  By 1 January 2023, Te Pūkenga will create a unified, sustainable public network of regionally accessible vocational and applied learning.

On 1 April 2020, Northland Polytechnic Limited (NorthTec) became part of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology.

Our purpose is to provide excellent opportunities for learners, employers, and communities to support the needs of Aotearoa New Zealand now and for the future.

Our vision is ‘ Whakairohia he toki, tāraia te anamata – Learning with purpose, creating our futures’.

We are guided by our values:

  • Manawa nui | We reach out and welcome in
  • Manawa roa | We learn and achieve together
  • Manawa ora | We strengthen and grow the whole person

Transitioning to Te Pūkenga

We’re in the process of transitioning to a national network. This means that from 2023 your enrolment and learning will be under Te Pūkenga - New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (Te Pūkenga).

While you are undertaking your learning, your enrolment will be governed by a new national Educational Regulatory Framework (which will be known as Te Kawa Maiorooro) and standardised terms and conditions that are being put in place by Te Pūkenga.  These will set out all the key information that you need to know about your rights as an ākonga|learner and our responsibilities to you.

We are working hard to finalise this detail and are aiming to have it in place and ready for 1 January 2023. Once these documents and details are formally adopted, they will be shared with you – we expect this to be in late November. They will form part of your enrolment contract from the date they are adopted.

Notification Document: Guidance as to how Te Pūkenga will transition learners onto the new educational regulatory framework and terms and conditions of enrolment from 1 January 2023
