Welcome to Te Pūkenga

From 1 January 2023, all NorthTec learners will be part of Te Pūkenga.

Te Pūkenga is building a national network of integrated learning in Aotearoa New Zealand that better meets the needs of learners, their whānau, employers and the community.

By bringing together on-the-job, on campus and online learning, Te Pūkenga is creating a network that gives learners more choices and flexibility in what, where and how they learn.

About Te Pūkenga

Te Pūkenga was established to better meet the needs of learners and employers by bringing together on-job, on-campus and online learning across Aotearoa New Zealand.  By 1 January 2023, Te Pūkenga will create a unified, sustainable public network of regionally accessible vocational and applied learning.

On 1 April 2020, Northland Polytechnic Limited (NorthTec) became part of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology.

Our purpose is to provide excellent opportunities for learners, employers, and communities to support the needs of Aotearoa New Zealand now and for the future.

Our vision is ‘ Whakairohia he toki, tāraia te anamata – Learning with purpose, creating our futures’.

We are guided by our values:

  • Manawa nui | We reach out and welcome in
  • Manawa roa | We learn and achieve together
  • Manawa ora | We strengthen and grow the whole person

Operating Model

We’ve been given a once in a lifetime opportunity to reimagine and build a world-class vocational, applied and on-the-job learning system for Aotearoa New Zealand that has our learners at the centre.

A summary of our proposed Operating Model provides an overview of how Te Pūkenga network is creating a world-class vocational and applied learning system that is accessible for all learners in Aotearoa New Zealand, and the mahi that’s been done to get us to this point.

Public engagement was undertaken in 2021, which is being used to shape the operating model: Proposed Operating Model Engagement Report
