StudyLink has made some key changes for study starting after 1 January 2014. These may impact:
Students who are not New Zealand citizens, refugees, or protected persons
Students aged over 39
Students aged under 18

When you are studying, you may be eligible for financial support from StudyLink. If you are currently in receipt of Sole Parent Support or Supported Living Payments please see your WINZ Case Manager to let them know you have enrolled for a course before making your StudyLink application.
A Student Allowance is a weekly payment to help with your living expenses while you study full-time. How much you get depends on your circumstances. You don't have to pay this back.
The Student Loan can help to finance your study. It's made up of three parts - Compulsory Fees, Course-related Costs and Living Costs. You have to pay a Student Loan back but you don’t have to have a loan if you can pay your course fees yourself, or receive a scholarship, and you can choose how much you want to borrow.
The Job Seeker Support Student Hardship is a weekly payment to help meet your living costs during study breaks longer than three weeks if you can't find work. To get the Job Seeker Support Student Hardship you must:
be registered for work with Student Job Search (or Work and Income) and
be actively looking for full-time work and
intend to study full-time after your study break and
have received or will be eligible to receive the Student Allowance
