Te Pōkaitahi Ngāpuhi-Nui-Tonu is an introductory intensive Te Reo me Tikanga o Ngāpuhi-Nui-Tonu programme that focuses on key aspects of language skills, that include waiata, history, tikanga marae, whakapapa and basic conversational Māori.
Graduates will be able to:
Participate in basic conversations in te reo Māori, one on one or in small groups
Demonstrate basic written and oral language skills
Demonstrate a basic understanding of tikanga and marae kaupapa of Ngāpuhi-Nui-Tonu
Participate in basic Ngāpuhi-Nui-Tonu waiata
Discuss basic history knowledge of Ngāpuhi-Nui-Tonu
Develop values such as manaakitanga (hospitality and care of people), whanaungatanga (being able to assist and relate to others through a common bond) and tu tangata (personal confidence)
All applicants must:
be at least 16 years old at the time the programme commences
be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level
be physically able to complete the programme specific outcomes
For a small number of programmes a police check or declaration about criminal convictions may be required. Students will be notified if this is required for the programme they are applying for.
Applicants for whom English is not a first language must have and IELTS score of 5 with no band score lower than 5; or an accepted international equivalence.
