unFramed - an exhibition of emergent photographers

A photography exhibition which has its official opening tomorrow in Whangarei will showcase the works of NorthTec’s Applied Arts students.

The latest exhibition at The Shutter Room, in the Old Library at 9 Rust Avenue, highlights the diversity of the Bachelor of Applied Arts photography programme at NorthTec. Aptly titled ‘unFramed’, the exhibition showcases work from photographers in the first, second and final year of the degree programme, as well as high school students who attend the NorthTec Art Academy.

There is a diversity of contemporary photographic practices on show, encompassing digital photography, moving image and alternative processes such as cyanotype. Subjects range from the representational to the abstract. A strong sense of place is evident in many of the works, and some have a documentary focus.

Under the guidance of their tutors, these emergent photographers have maintained clear conceptual intent and high and exacting standards of presentation. They are pleased to offer their works for sale.

The exhibition runs until Saturday 26th August, with the official launch taking place tomorrow (9 August) at 3.30pm. The Shutter Room is located at the back of the Old Library, and gallery hours are Wednesdays to Fridays, 1pm to 4pm, and Saturdays, 10am to 1pm.
