Overview The New Zealand Law Society Legal Executive programme is designed and externally examined by the New Zealand Law Society with tuition provided by NorthTec.
The programme is designed to develop competent Legal Executives who can work unsupervised and support barristers and solicitors, undertaking law office work. It also offers opportunities for employment in government departments, trust companies and other organisations who undertake law-related activities.
Content Graduates of the programme are able to support lawyers by:
- Assisting in the sale and purchase of land
- Administering a deceased person’s estate
- Preparing, and filing in court, documents on which court cases are
to be based
- Preparing documents for agreements between landlords and tenants,
formation of new companies, and property and commercial transactions
- Writing letters and dealing with clients.

Further Study
Admission Information Applicants under 20 years of age require NCEA Level 2 or equivalent NZQA Unit Standards.
Applicants over 20 years of age must be able to demonstrate success in a study programme or experience of legal work.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a minimum IELTS score of 6.0.
