Diploma in Maori Weaving

Overview
Students will be exposed to customary dyeing processes, tikanga and customary practices in raranga. Students will also learn how to make tukutuku, tapapa, korowai with a focus on practical learning and imparting knowledge. Research will focus on conceptual developments from Ngäpuhi-nui-tonu korero-a-iwi.


Content
Graduates will be able to:

  • Produce finished woven articles such as kete, tapapa and korowai
  • Demonstrate and apply tikanga pertinent to raranga practices
  • Develop sharing and teaching of raranga
  • Discuss the context and environment of customary and contemporary
    Mäori art developments in Aotearoa.

Admission Information
Applicants need to have successfully passed Te Pökaitahi Ngäpuhi-Nui-Tonu-Te Raranga, or demonstrate equivalent qualifications in raranga, or demonstrate equivalent skill and experience in raranga.


Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a
minimum IELTS score of 6.0.
