To provide the knowledge and skills required for an entry level position in the electrical, telecommunications, electronic security and appliance servicing industries.

Graduates will be able to:
- Identify hazards and work safely in the electrical industry
- Have knowledge of basic engineering tasks associated with the
electrical industry
- Demonstrate knowledge of and be able to use common hand tools
and electrical measuring equipment used within the electrical
industry
- Demonstrate knowledge of electrical, telecom and electronic
principles, including regulations and wiring systems and be able to
apply them to basic electrical systems
- Install, have knowledge of how to disconnect and fault find basic
electrical systems including appliances, lighting and motor systems,
security and phone systems
- Build a dc power supply to industry standard
- Discuss the respective Codes of Practice and understand the limits
of work relating to the electrical and associated industries.

Admission Information
Entry requirements include a minimum of three years’ secondary
education. Preference will be given to students with NCEA Level 1, or equivalent unit standards, in English, Mathematics and Science.
Mature students will be assessed on an individual basis.
Students will be required to provide evidence of suitability based on
interview and/or portfolio.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.
Qualification Gained:
Credits towards National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Electrical
Registration) (Level 4)
