Forestry offers fantastic opportunities right here in Northland. With five million tonnes of timber out there to be harvested each year, there’s a big demand for qualified, skilled people. We can confidently say that if you get the qualification, you’ll have no trouble finding a job here or around New Zealand.
This is one of the few industries where you can still come in at the bottom, get the skills, and work your way up. The money is good and, with experience under your belt, there’s the opportunity to become your own boss as a contractor.
People come into forestry from all walks of life – men and increasingly, women too. There are no barriers. For many people it’s a lifestyle choice – providing the opportunity to live in the North, to work outdoors in some pretty amazing locations, and to be a part of one of Northland’s back-bone industries.
Forestry Courses
The course is 50% hands-on practical work. Of course there’s classroom work too, but don’t feel nervous about that even if it’s a long while since you’ve been in a classroom – this is a supportive environment and many students surprise themselves with their achievements.
