Overview Students will investigate the historical context of art and design, and acquire the creative skills, techniques and processes required in order to produce quality work in selected media.
Content Graduates will be able to:
- Explore and develop ideas and expression through drawing and
experimentation with selected media, techniques and visual languages
- Work through the creative process to produce quality art and design
works in their selected fields
- Research the context, content and practice of their specialist fields
in order to extend their own art and design practice, and document findings
- Identify models of excellence in their fields
- Recognise the professional and ethical standards required in their
specialist fields.

Further Study
Admission Information Applicants under 20 require:
- A portfolio
- A minimum of 14 credits at NCEA Level 3 in each of 2 subjects, one
of which must be art or design or art-related
- Plus 14 credits at Level 3 or higher taken from no more than 2
additional domains or approved subjects.
Applicants aged 20 or over require demonstrated commitment through a portfolio and interview.
Applicants where English is not their first language shall provide evidence that they have achieved an overall band score of 6.0 with not less than 5.5 in each band for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or in exceptional circumstances a pass in another equivalent test of English.
