Overview
To provide experienced forestry workers, who have a good understanding of the forestry operation or operations they work in, with specialist skills. The qualification has 12 specialist strands allowing the student to select a strand appropriate to their workplace.
Content
This qualification provides graduates with the advanced knowledge and skills needed to carry out and supervise day-to-day operational functions within a forest. These operational functions will be determined by the strand selected from the following:
- Establishment and Silvicultural Operations
- Production Tree Felling
- Hauler Set-Up
- Machine Operations - Hauler, Head Breaker Out, Cable Harvesting,
Log Making
- Machine Operations - Log Extraction
- Machine Operations - Loader, Mechanised Tree Felling, Mechanised
Processing, and Helicopter Logging
- Depending on the selection of standards, some graduates will be
capable of operational management for their worksite.
Admission Information
It would be an advantage for applicants to hold a Level 3 qualification in forestry or to be able to demonstrate equivalent competencies.
Mature students who cannot provide evidence of previous academic achievement may be asked to complete a literacy/numeracy assessment to determine the level of support they will require.
All students must pass a test for illegal drugs prior to commencement of on-job training and be physically able to complete the requirements of the programme.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a
minimum IELTS score of 5.5.
