Overview To introduce students to ecological and resource management principles underlying contemporary environmental issues.
Content Graduates will be able to:
- Demonstrate a theoretical and practical knowledge of New Zealand’s
terrestrial and marine ecosystems and their constituent flora and fauna
- Explain the concept of sustainability as it applies to environmental
management
- Discuss the use of resource management and conservation
techniques for the sustainable management of terrestrial and marine ecosystems
- Introduce practical skills to monitor terrestrial and marine ecosystems
- Present and report on the results of investigations clearly; and
- Demonstrate involvement in the protection and restoration of the
natural, rural and urban environments in Northland.

Admission Information In addition to generic entry requirements, school leavers require a Year 12, NCEA Level 2 education or higher, and it is recommended that they hold 14 or more NCEA Level 3 Credits in Geography and/or a Science.
Students over 20 years of age will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a minimum IELTS score of 6.0.
