Overview
Hands on introduction to visual art-making materials and processes, together with a contextual overview of art design, to produce a portfolio for arts-related career goals or further study.


Content
Graduates will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge of creative processes involved in the making of and
    talking about Art
  • Express themselves by formulating ideas and developing these through to a point of resolution in the generation of art work
  • Apply some of the skills and techniques used in a range of areas of the Visual Arts
  • Discuss the culture and heritage of the creative arts sector, with a
    focus on Tai Tokerau
  • Discuss what professional practice is, and the standards required for
    future work in the creative sector
  • Demonstrate the basic skills, knowledge and understanding in the Visual Arts that they have developed over the year, through a
    portfolio of recent work.

Further Study

Admission Information
Entry to the programme is open but one or a combination of the
following is desirable:

  • Three years of secondary education
  • Prior experience in applied arts in the required strand (for example
    visual art or theatre) would be an advantage
  • Evidence of suitability based on interview and/or portfolio.
    Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a
    minimum IELTS score of 5.5.
