To introduce students to the knowledge and skills required of a competent social service worker within the context of ethical practice and accountability.
Content
Graduates of this programme will be able to:
- Demonstrate a broad knowledge of the major theories and models that inform professional practice
- Work safely and effectively from a bicultural and multi-cultural perspective
- Understand the causes of oppression and marginalisation in Aotearoa/New Zealand
- Address and challenge inequalities that maintain injustices
- Interpret social policy and legislation as it relates to professional practice in Aotearoa/New Zealand
- Be critically reflective of their practice
- Understand the importance of self-care, supervision and on-going professional development.

Admission Information
Mature students (20 years and older) must demonstrate ability to achieve the standards required for successful completion of the programme.
Recent school leavers: A person will be academically qualified for entry to this degree programme if that person has achieved at least 80 credits at Level 3 or higher on the NQF.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language must achieve an IELTS of not less than 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in each band, or in exceptional circumstances achieve a pass in another equivalent test of English.
Applicants will be interviewed and required to provide additional information.
