“The special thing about the NorthTec course is that we learn the theory then get to apply it straight away in our clinical placements. We work with actual patients in hospitals or rest homes or in the community, so we get a full understanding of why we do what we do. We get to see how our actions benefit others. It is so rewarding to help people and see results.”

Lennaa finds the biggest challenge of the course is the workload. “I would advise anyone thinking of doing this to keep up to date because there so much to learn. We cover pharmacology, biology, and physiology. Fortunately the tutors give us one to one support and are incredibly accessible to help us stay on track.”

Lenna intends to go on to do a post graduate degree through AUT. “It will broaden my qualification plus give me more experience and more knowledge. I want to travel the world - nursing. Nursing can be in hospitals, in the community, in doctors’ rooms, or in education. The possibilities are endless. I initially wanted to do paediatrics, then surgical, and now I’m keen on community nursing. I’m still exploring. I’m excited for my future!”
