“I’ve tried lots, but now I think I’ve find my thing!”

Balei (aka Junior) came to NorthTec because he thought there would be fewer distractions than studying in Auckland. “I was originally into music and sound and wanted to use video to support that. Now I’ve shifted my focus to making substantial films - documentaries, short films, and maybe feature films later on.”

“I changed because I really enjoy the technical aspects of filming and my tutors say I have an eye for it. I’m amazed at what’s possible with lighting, sound editing, and different media. I love the way you can tell a story with just lighting. Concepting a story is not a problem however scriptwriting is going to be a challenge that I will welcome.”

Balei already has projects up on line and is constantly making new contacts both online and through his tutors. “The tutors are awesome. They are passionate about what they do and it shows.”

Balei is looking forward to the course content that covers application for funding for film projects because he has several ideas gestating. 

When he completes the course, Balei wants to get experience on a full production film crew. “My real dream would be to travel worldwide doing what I love doing. Peter Jackson! Watch this space.”
