iTaB Carpentry Apprenticeship Trainers Working with Industry and Schools
July 2012
Robin Storey of NorthTec, iTaB carpentry apprentice trainer, has been supporting the Certified Builders Association of New Zealand (CBANZ) schools “Build Off” competition by building kitset trains, with the help of a collection of CBANZ members, for Whangarei Heads, Maungakaremea, Matarua, and Kokopu Primary Schools.
The supplies required for the trains were sponsored by Rosvall Sawmills, Bunnings Warehouse, and Resenes Paints, and the NorthTec carpentry workshop was used after hours as a space to build the trains.
Now that the trains have been built and assembled, they will be dismantled into flat packs and sent to the schools. The schools will then paint the parts and reassemble them at the CBANZ expo on 21 July, where they will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going back to the schools.
The school teams will be made up of 4 – 6 students, with each team assembling the trains under the supervision of a certified builder. The trains will be auctioned off at approximately 2pm at the Expo, which is being held at the Elim Church, 33 Porowini Ave, Whangarei.
“It’s great to see CBANZ and NorthTec working with schools and local community” said Robin Storey.
