OPTIONS FOR TRAVELLING TO NORTHTEC FROM AUCKLAND

By shuttle:
This is a ‘door-to-door’ service so the shuttle driver will greet you at Auckland International arrivals and drop you off where you stay in Whangarei. NorthTec International will book the shuttle for you. Contact the Accommodation Coordinator to have a shuttle booked for you subject to pre-payment 14 days in advance. The fare is usually around $150/person, but it gets reduced if there are more than one passengers travelling at the same time.

By air:
Several domestic flights are scheduled each day between Auckland and Whangarei. The price varies from $79 to over $200 – the earlier in advance you book, the cheaper the flights are. Bookings should be made by your travel agent in your home country to make sure that your international and domestic flights are linked. Bookings can also be made online. Auckland Airport offers a free bus transfer between terminals.

By bus:
From Auckland Airport an Airbus Express service runs every 10 minutes to the city centre. Tickets cost about NZ$16 one way.

From Auckland City centre you could choose from the following bus lines and book your ticket online:

InterCity leaves central Auckland from beside the Sky Tower from the Sky City Coach Terminal at 102 Hobson Street and arrives in Whangarei at the Northland Coach and Travel Centre bus terminal at 3C Bank Street. Fares range from $24 (non-refundable) with student ID card.

Naked Bus leaves central Auckland from 172 Quay Street opposite the Ferry Building 50m west of ‘Britomart’ bus and train station, and it arrives in Whangarei at ‘The Hub’ Transport centre at the Town Basin on Dent Street. Fares start from $22.

By rental car: There are a number of car rental companies at Auckland Airport but most of them expect to have their cars returned so do not allow a one-way trip to Whangarei. Compare rental car prices here

By taxi: A taxi ride from Auckland Airport to Whangarei would cost hundreds of dollars so we do not recommend this. If you still wish to consider this option, we suggest that you get several quotes from different taxi companies.
